Newcastle Primary School returns once again to the Bettws Triangle Festival 2026. In 2024 they performed with the larger Blue Hills Federation Choir, but last year went solo! This year will see them performing solo again but supported by the Shropshire Music Service. The children are looking forward to performing once again at St Mary's Church, Bettws and hope you will join them. New in this form to the Festival.
Stephen Clarke ~ After taking early retirement seven years ago, Steve Clark and his wife Jilly moved to their favourite place, Clun. Starting out on the open mic circuit, Steve became a familiar face in the local music scene. He now runs the popular “Buskers Corner” open mic at The Sun Inn in Clun, helping to create a welcoming space for musicians of all levels. Alongside hosting, Steve performs regularly both solo and in various collaborations, bringing a mix of well-loved covers, strong vocals, and an engaging, easy-going style that connects with audiences. New to the Festival
Paul Frowen ~ Paul is a musician active in the South Wales folk festival and folk club circuit. Although his background was originally as a brass player, he now plays autoharp and enjoys singing songs which tell stories in both English and Welsh. New to the Festival
Men from Off are a group of Shropshire men singing together for sheer enjoyment. The group has gradually evolved and now perform 3-and 4-part harmony, down from the original 10! Their repertoire is mainly based on traditional and contemporary Shropshire songs but includes others which have a relevance to the ‘Men from Off’. All-time favourites. Loved by all.
Toby Hay: Toby Hay is a guitar player and composer. Fascinated by the connection between landscape and music, he is inspired by the landscapes of the Cambrian Mountains where he lives and is interested in the connection between improvisation and composition. He has toured all over the UK & Ireland performing solo or collaborating with other musicians. Founder of Cambrian Records. “One of the finest guitarists of his generation.” — KLOF “Magical work of vast melodic scope.” — RnR Magazine, "one of folk-rocks greatest modern names” — UNCUT. Back by popular demand
Holly Blackshaw: Never being much of a city girl, Holly was born and raised in and around Hull, East Yorkshire, but always found sanctuary in what wild she could in the warp lands. Holly grew in psych/rock/folk band Crooked Weather, where worldwide travelling and touring ensued, before parting ways in 2020. During the pandemic Holly uprooted and moved to Radnorshire, Mid-Wales where she honed her sound as a solo artist and now, her first release is eagerly anticipated. New to the Festival
Newtown and District Male Voice Choir: This choir comes from all walks of life, not only from Newtown, but also the surrounding areas of Mid Wales and Shropshire. The choir regularly performs at a range of events in Newtown and nearby, including concerts, weddings and other community events. We are delighted that they will be performing at the Bettws Triangle Festival. Return visit to the Festival
David Reynolds and George Byatt Dave (guitar/vocals) and George (vocals) met at a local Folk session when Dave added a guitar part to a song George was singing. They have been performing together ever since. Their repertoire features many styles from good old favourites and ballads to folk and jazz standards. We love having this duo on board bringing something a little different to the festival. Favourites at the Festival
Val Littlehales is described as “a fantastic and a true Shropshire wench and is so entertaining” She certainly is one of Shropshire’s leading storytellers and brings so much humour and enjoyment to the tales and stories she writes. She comes from farming stock, born and bred in Shropshire and has plenty of tales to tell around the theme of farming and the rural countryside. A favourite at our festival.
Rapsquillion is now in its 27th year, the award-winning but grizzled veteran of the Shropshire and mid-Wales folk music scene, has been producing its own brand of close harmony music, mostly a cappella and usually based on traditional words and music. This group of singers goes from strength to strength, and we are proud that most are also local Morris Dancers, what could be better! “I was blown away by your fantastic warmth, sound and stage presence” Regular feature to the Festival
Shropshire Harmony Quire: Lively & vigorous 17th century music by the West Gallery singers and instrumentalists. These amateur musicians reveled in their music-making, but their full-on style and undisciplined behavior led to their expulsion by the church authorities. Shropshire Harmony Quire recreates the unique sound of these village musicians in hymns and anthems that contain folk qualities and surprising echoes of Handel. Director Andy Watts of The Carnival Band harnesses The Quire’s enthusiasm and energy. Music is full of life and joy. Return visit to the Festival.
Lisa Beznosiuk ~ As a leading performer on early flutes, Lisa Beznosiuk has performed all over the world and recorded a wide range of 18th and 19th-century music on a variety of historical and modern flutes from her collection. She is a founder member of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and teaches at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In this solo recital she’ll introduce some of her favourite flutes, playing a selection of contemporaneous unaccompanied pieces by composers such as Blavet, Bach and Telemann. Must not be missed.
High Variety Saxophone Quartet has been performing for several years. We play a mixture of music from classical to jazz and popular music. The Quartet consists of Soprano saxophone, (Janet Phillips), Alto saxophone (David Chester), Tenor saxophone (Ann Spandrzyk) and Baritone saxophone (Barry Gough). The quartet was formed to perform at a concert in Shropshire. After that we decided to keep the band going, and bookings keep coming in. The Quartet performs at weddings and other social events. New to the Festival.
